VW Touareg

It’s the holiday season and with it comes teeth-chattering weather and nasty driving conditions. But the all-new 2011 Volkswagen Touareg provides a breath of deliciously fresh, chilly air in the mid-sized SUV category and handles the winter practically like a cool spring day.

A perfect example: Banff, Canada. Known for “its bone-chilling temperatures, and slippery ice-covered roads and trails,” Banff provided the perfect site for a bunch of automotive reporters curious about how the handsome ride handles the vicious weather.

Greg Wilson of CanadianDriver.com was one of these writers. So how did the Touareg measure up? For starters, when traversing the steep, ice-coated trails and hard, unforgiving snow-covered roads, “the Touareg felt very stable and secure with excellent tire and cornering grip.” That must be due to the revised lightweight 4Motion all-wheel drive system with Torsen limited slip centre differential. And maybe the “Off Road” AWD settings, Hill Descent Assist and the added 20-inch Pirelli Scorpion winter tires had something to do with the Touareg SUV’s impressive performance. He tested and was pleased with the performance of both the V6 engine and the TDI clean diesel version.
